One thing that MotoGP has in its favor is its frequently raucous unpredictability, a far cry from the sometimes-processional nature of F1. Reigning double world champion Pecco Bagnaia agreed. Opinion | Who’s Afraid of Reissued Books?

It is a truth universally acknowledged that literary critics are the most annoying people in the world. Overseeing the development of a literary culture, which is part of a critic’s job, is a process of fits and starts. Critics play a role in determining which books published today should be branded “instant classics,” which authors are best described as “little-known” and which books published in past decades or centuries merit re-examination. Older books like “The Dud Avocado” and “Stoner” — and even “Moby-Dick” and “The Great Gatsby” — became more famous upon reprinting than they had been when originally published. But this is a feature, not a bug: The journey of discovering literature — for critics and also for everyday readers — is made of detours.

In the decades that followed, Oreos and freezer waffles (“L’eggo my Eggo!”) were portrayed as so irresistible that people fought over them. A popular stoner movie, “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle,” chronicled two friends’ obsessions with fast-food sliders. A defense lawyer for Young Thug told jurors his rapper name actually means "Truly Humble Under God." AdvertisementAn attorney defending Young Thug in his RICO trial said the Grammy winner's moniker actually stands for "Truly Humble Under God." Steel said Young Thug desired to break his community out of poverty and an "endless cycle of hopelessness," and that if he achieved his goal, he would be "Truly Humble Under God." "They call themselves YSL because the pants, tight-fitting pants, the women's pants that they're wearing it says YSL, Yves Saint Laurent. ATLANTA (AP) — When rapper Young Thug goes to trial later this month on gang and racketeering charges, prosecutors will be allowed to use rap lyrics as evidence against him, a judge ruled Thursday. Young Thug, whose given name is Jeffery Lamar Williams, was indicted last year along with more than two dozen others. Young Thug has had enormous success as a rapper and has his own music label, Young Stoner Life. All of the defendants were accused of conspiring to violate the anti-racketeering law, and the indictment includes rap lyrics that prosecutors allege are overt acts “in furtherance of the conspiracy.”“The question is not rap lyrics. The question is gang lyrics,” prosecutor Mike Carlson told the judge during a hearing Wednesday, later adding.

I'm fascinated by Hollywood's interpretation of finance, from "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "Margin Call" to "The Big Short." The depiction of hedge fund managers Ken Griffin (Nick Offerman), Steve Cohen (Vincent D'Onofrio), and Gabe Plotkin (Seth Rogen), whose firm's GameStop short position put it in Reddit traders' crosshairs, came across as too over-the-top and cartoonish. But if satire was the direction the movie wanted — à la "The Wolf of Wall Street" — it should have pushed harder. Instead, Gill's stoner brother (Pete Davidson) has to carry the comedy load, but most of his jokes come up short.

It had a novel reloading system that functioned on the gun’s own hot gas, and a unique stock that kept the gun on target. In 1959, the gun company Colt acquired manufacturing and sublicensing rights to Stoner’s AR-15 and his gas system. It came equipped with a 20-round magazine, and in 1966, the military ordered more than 400,000 of the guns for its troops. That didn’t stop Colt from marketing to hunters a semiautomatic version — the “Sporter” — that carried a five-round magazine. The gun did not catch on, and the company produced only a few thousand a year.

One of the things that we’re really proud of is that we’re telling Stoner’s story for the first time. One of the key things we try to answer in this book is: What would Stoner think about what’s going on today? Why is it that the AR-15 became this symbol, and not some other gun? Going back to the 1994 assault weapons ban, the AR-15 was kind of an afterthought at the time. We really wanted to show the impact on their lives.

Mary Turner Pattiz, who as Mary Turner was a silky-voiced disc jockey at KMET, the album-oriented rock station that was the soundtrack of Southern California in the 1970s and early ’80s, before leaving radio to become an addiction counselor and philanthropist, died on May 9 at her home in Beverly Hills. The cause was cancer, said Ace Young, a former KMET news director. (When Jim Ladd, a late-night D.J., told his listeners to phone the White House to protest the practice, 5,000 callers jammed the White House switchboard.) When major bands came to town to perform or promote a new record, they made a stop at KMET to be interviewed by Ms. Pattiz. For his part, Mr. Springsteen was so taken with her that he asked her on a date, and at his performance at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., the night after the interview, he dedicated the song “Promised Land” to her.

REUTERS/Nadja Wohlleben/File PhotoApril 20 (Reuters) - From cannabis-infused flowers to edible weed gummies, marijuana companies are pulling out all the stops as they eye bumper sales on April 20 - a day referred to as "4/20" in weed culture. Industry insiders expect highest single-day sales ever for the cannabis sector on Thursday even as the industry faces increased scrutiny from lawmakers in the United States. 4/20, derived from a trope for smoking marijuana, typically sees cannabis companies such as High Tide, Canopy Growth (WEED.TO), and Trulieve Cannabis Corp (TRUL.CD) amp up promotions, throwing in exclusive deals and discounts to lure customers. Wholesale cannabis platform Leaflink expects sales of infused flowers and pre-rolled joints to jump 500%-1,000% compared to 2022. According to seasonality data from cannabis data firm BDSA, cannabis retailers see more sales on Thursdays than on Wednesdays and Tuesdays.
